It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the tragic loss of CHP Officer Scott Edward Merritt, ID 18134, who passed away September 10, 2021 from complications related to COVID-19. Officer Merritt, 42, a nearly 16-year veteran of the Department, was assigned to the CHP - Bakersfield Area office. Officer Merritt also served in the CHP’s Santa Cruz Area office after his academy graduation.

Officer Merritt is survived by his wife and two children. Our thoughts are with all who knew him during this most difficult time.
