About Us

Who We Are

In the late 1960s, a group of CHP officers set out to establish a special financial institution, one that would serve the unique needs of fellow peace officers and their families by reflecting the strong values of their fellow professionals. The result was CAHP Credit Union. When CAHPCU first opened in 1969, we had five members. Today, we have roughly 14,000. Yet, while our membership has grown over the years, we remain dedicated to matching the integrity, judgment and courtesy displayed by our peace officer members every day, in providing financial services whenever and wherever they need to access the CAHPCU.

Serving Our Members

Our members belong to a special group of people, bound together by common goals, shared values and a well-earned recognition for attaining the highest level of professionalism within our nation’s law enforcement community. In order to serve them well and earn their trust, we have to show the same character, loyalty and sense of honor as they do. We strive to meet that challenge every day through the excellence of our financial products and the commitment and expertise of our staff. That’s why we have been—and always will be—the quality financial service choice for those who devote their careers, and lives, to protecting the public as peace officers.

CAHPCU Beginnings

CAHP Credit Union began on February 14, 1969 when our five founding members were given approval by the Department of Corporations to form our financial institution. At first, membership was reserved for employees and members of the California Association of Highway Patrolmen (the Association). These early members helped influence the creation and design of our distinctive logo. For years, we were headquartered at 1408 5th Street in Sacramento, a location we shared with the Association. In October of 1977, the Credit Union purchased land at 2843 Manlove Road in Sacramento and developed it into our corporate headquarters.

CAHPCU Expands to Southern California

Seeing a need to better serve our members in the lower half of the state, we opened our first southern California branch office in 1976. After receiving a state-of-the-art upgrade in 2012, our newest southern California office opened at 9471 Pittsburgh Avenue in Rancho Cucamonga.

CAHPCU Memberships Grows

During the 1990s, the Credit Union expanded eligibility to include other members of California’s law enforcement community, namely through the Peace Officers Research Association of California — PORAC. In honor and recognition of this partnership, and to display our pride in serving a significant number of California’s peace officers, we incorporated elements of the PORAC logo into the Credit Union logo you see today. Over time, the membership field of CAHPCU has grown steadily because we are dedicated to serving those who serve us.
